CONTEMPORARY IMPRESSIONIST OIL PAINTER

Sharing the Beauty and Joy of Everyday Life

Diane DuBois Mullaly - Biography

MY PASSION FOR PAINTING

began with the powerful connection I feel to the landscape.

On the Eastern Shore of Maryland - my home - the marshes and estuaries, and the quality of the light from the big open sky all tantalize me. Can I reach out and grab them, and reduce them to paint? In my figurative work, I am challenged to build the human form from a few essential elements - shapes, values and color. My goal as I work is to grab the viewer with energy; yet also speak quietly, with poetic passages. And to share the beauty and joy I find in everyday life.

Diane DuBois Mullaly was born in Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay, and grew up along the beautiful Jordan Creek near Allentown, Pennsylvania. After a childhood spent drawing and observing nature, she attended Tyler School of Art of Temple University as a graphic design major.

Graphics career highlights include her position as Art Director for a woman’s fashion chain; and as a Graphic Designer in the corporate communications department of one of the world's largest banks in New York City. She then returned to Pennsylvania and sold antiques and collectibles for many years at the legendary Georgetown Flea Market, Washington, DC.

Now, Diane lives with her husband Russ, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. An award winning painter, Diane paints weekly with the Plein Air Painters of the Chesapeake Bay (PAPCB), has been juried into the Plein Air-Easton! competition five times, and frequently paints the portrait and figure from life. A popular instructor at the Academy Art Museum, please click Workshops for Diane's upcoming workshops and classes for all levels in Easton, Maryland. Diane has also developed a reputation as a fair and thorough judge/juror of regional exhibits and competitions.

As a volunteer, Diane was administrative manager of the Plein Air-Easton! Quick Draw competition from 2005 - 2011; is on the steering committee of PAPCB; and since 2005 has annually organized a group of about 30 Friday Morning Artists to create original art for a 6' tree for the Talbot Hospice fundraiser Festival of Trees.

Since she began painting, Diane has studied with numerous renowned national and regional oil painters. Her greatest influences have been instruction by Camille Przewodek, Tim Bell, Carolyn Anderson, Louis Escobedo, Ken DeWaard, Carol Marine and Qiang Huang; and her working relationship with Nancy Tankersley. She was encouraged early in her painting career by Joe Mayer and Joyce Zeigler.
